The machinery used to turn the liquids and suspensions into solids is the drum drier. The basic goal is to disperse the liquid across a vast surface area to speed up drying. It consists of a hollow steel drum with a diameter of 0.75 to 1.5 metres and a length of 2 to 4 metres. It rotates across its longitudinal axis while being heated typically by steam. The outside of the drum has a polished finish. In a pan, liquid or slurry is used as feed. The pan is partially submerged beneath the drum. The spreader is utilised to evenly distribute liquid film on the roller.
